ENLIGHTEN ME!
Last Sunday was the college graduation at the College of Mass Communication as well as the university graduation for the whole UP Diliman campus. I sort of volunteered to be one of the ushers for the CMC college graduation committee (MiniVox), thinking that it would be a great experience and since I won’t be doing anything, I might as well be useful to other people.

I was stationed at CMC to attend to the buffet together with Ate Nel, Kea and Transfi. I was kind of disappointed that I won’t be able to stay at the Cine Adarna to watch the ceremony, but I quickly got over it. At least I won’t have to stand for four hours and usher finicky parents to their respective seats.
We arranged the chairs, which sounds pretty easy, but when you are preparing a buffet for about 400 people, arranging chairs becomes a mean feat. Everything turned about well in the buffet preparation and we even finished early. So, I asked Kea and Transfi to come with me and watch the rest of the ceremony since we won’t be doing anything anymore. When we arrived at the theater we quickly found seats and made ourselves comfortable much to the dismay of the other ushers who were all standing at the back (hahaha!).
While watching the ceremony, I sort of realized that I only have two years left before I walk the same aisles the graduates were walking in. Would I be wearing the much coveted sablay on time? Would I at least get a cum laude honor (a lot of people actually got cum laude…)? That was when I began to worry about the state of my academic standing. I promised myself that when I graduate from college I would at least get a cum laude standing (I haven’t received any honors when I graduated from elementary and high school because of the uber stiff academic competition…), but now that I think of it, I might not be able to fulfill that promise.
Several of my orgmates from MCO actually got high honors. Many of them got cum laude, some even managed to achieve magna cum laude status, and one even got a special award from the Philippine Daily Inquirer. I wonder if I would also follow in their footsteps. I really hope I do. *sigh…
Enlighten me please!
