Step away Havaianas, move away Dupé, and beat it Banana Peel. There’s a new flip-flop in town, and it has something all three of you will never have…an attitude! More than your ordinary flip-flops or slippers…I’m here to present Flippers! Not a single dolphin or marine mammal was involved; I’m talking about a different flipper…
When I first saw Flippers featured in Myx, I thought that it must cost a fortune. But my jaws dropped when I heard the price, it was an effing steal! I immediately visited their website and placed an order for a pair. Just one. I should test it first and get a feel of it. After two weeks of painful waiting and uncontainable excitement the product was finally ready for pick-up. I met up with one of Flipper’s people, Kevin, at Dairy Queen, Trinoma and held for the very first time one of the greatest inventions since sliced bread…
Flippers are not your ordinary flip-flops (or slippers…whatever…call it what you want…does anyone really care?). It boasts of an innovative feature: it comes with a changeable strap! Now, how cool is that?! It’s like buying two slippers for the price of one. The best part is, since each one is made to order, every pair is somehow unique. Every Flipper comes in its own bag (like the shoe bags which come with expensive leather shoes and bags). The unique thing is, the bag’s handles are actually the Flipper’s changeable strap. You can take it off the bag and use it to replace the strap so you can change your Flipper’s look. Amazing!
I am a big fan of slippers. Wearing rubber shoes all the time makes my feet hurt. But I never bought a pair of Havaianas. Why? Despite its popularity Havaianas, as well as other flip-flop brands, has one attribute which makes it unappealing to me. Their straps are made of rubber (or plastic for the other brands). I despise rubber or plastic straps! For some reason, my feet are bruised when I use them. At first I thought it was just because they were new, but after weeks of using them, the bruises just keep on coming. When I discontinued use, the bruises also stopped. I have no idea what the reason is, but since then I have always bought slippers with textile straps.
Slippers with fabric straps are a pain to clean! You have to wash them with soap and water to clean it. Sometimes the fabric’s color fades, and that’s a fucking dis! But I buy them anyway because I’d rather suffer a minor inconvenience than suffer a recurring pain. There are actually a lot of flips with fabric straps, but some of them are too expensive! Even more expensive than Havaianas. So I turn to our local brands for help. Local brands offer some great flips with fabric straps, and the best part is they come cheap. So you can just discard them after a while. Fabric straps also come in more styles. Fabric straps are more fashionable for me. Havaianas only come in limited colors, though there are models which have arty designs, more probably than not, you’ll see someone wearing the exact model you’re wearing. Talk about awkward. You and a few other people have the exact style of flips. With fabric flips you don’t have to worry much. Plus the popularity of Havs along with the ‘gaya-gaya’ attitude of the Filipino makes fabric flips less ‘overused’.
What I like about Flippers is that it has textile straps. It’s not really fabric, more like leatherette. So far I have only suffered a minor foot bruise (probably because it is still new… I hope), but I’m uber loving it so far! I’m the only one who has one, as far as I know, in our college (maybe even in UP! hahaha!). And a lot of the people I’ve asked told me that it looks expensive and really nice. Except for minor production flaws like a loose thread here and there (it’s an online product, and like many online products it is usually made by hand by few people who really can’t afford to hire employees trained for mass production with high standards of quality), it’s actually pretty decent. Unfortunately they only have one design, which is available in three different colors (blue, black, and beige).
Now, I know you’re simply dying to know from which site I ordered my Flippers, and how much do they really cost. But I won’t tell you. Just look for yourself.
As I said, I hate it when other people wear what I’m wearing…
I’m going to keep it to myself first, like the selfish brat that I am…
But if you do want to order one, contact me (if you know me) ‘coz I still have Kevin’s number, I could probably text him, to speed up the ordering process for you…
And I also want to order another one once the bruises are all gone…

Hi. Glad that you blogged about it. Haha. I, for myself, loved our product the first time I saw the prototype. I thought the look was cool. It cannot be denied that there are really several flaws that can be pointed out like sanding, stitches, etc. Nevertheless, I think it’s good. (not that I’m being biased..haha) Thanks again!
