HULI KA BALBON!
Another Oblation Run has come and gone here in UP. This would just like be any other Oble had I not witnessed one of the stupidest denial scenes ever conceived in history. As everyone knows, Oblation runners literally runs around Palma Hall (AS to older students)…naked. Baring their moneymakers for everyone to see (or not see…). For most it is a tradition of freedom, for others it is a yearly excuse to see flesh. People from all walks of life (and universities…) flock to UP every December to watch this crazy spectacle.
Luka and I we’re hanging around the Chem Pav thinking that the parade of nakedness is finally over (the whole run lasted for about four rounds, usually its just three). We were about to leave when a solitary runner went into the pavillion. Why was he alone? Perhaps he had to go to class, or he wanted to pee, or whatever. That is not the point. The point is…after a few minutes two guys came out of the building, bothe of them dressed, then one of the girls shouted “Siya yun! Siya yun!” naturally everyone looked at one of the guys. The guy (with all conviction mind you!) steadily denied that he was the runner who went in a while ago! He kept on insisting that it wasn’t him, when it fact he was it! He was perspiring a lot, his shirt looked disgruntled and the biggest part is: he wasn’t wearing any shoes!! All runners run barefoot, so it is safe to assume that he was really the guy. Todo deny pa ang loko! In fairness to the guy, he is good looking, so it would have been quite alright, even heroic to just admit that it is really him. It would seem more prudent and would add to the credibility of the Oblation Run. I mean gad! If you are willing to run naked, you should be ready to accept the reality when someone does recognize you… maybe he was just ashamed that it wasn’t too big…his foot i mean…
