BAKE AND CHURN

I am back from my hiatus! I know it is quite a long absence and I the idea of not having any entries for several weeks seems like a terrible notion in the world of blogging, but here I am ready to blog away again. Anyway my friends and I discovered this new food place at SM City Fairview (I live at the Fairview area). Its actually a cross between an ice cream parlor and a cafe. It is actually quite nice and offers a very unique chow for those looking for something new.
The place is Bake and Churn, located at the Annex of the mall (behind the escalator near the Fruitas stand). Its not a big place but it is very comfy. It is an open cafe with several tables and a few chic couches for those lazy coffee conversations. The place offers the usual: coffee, tea, a variety of other beverages and an assortment of sandwiches and bagels. But what sets Bake and Churn apart from other cafes is its selection of ice cream cakes, yes you read that right: a cake made of ice cream. Though the calorie meter will definitely rise, the taste of their ice cream cake is just pure bliss.
So far they only have 10 flavors which include strawberry, chocolate, cookies and cream, and black forest among others. Ice cream cakes are prepared beforehand and placed in a freezer ready for consumption. It has two variants just like a conventional cake: the rolls and the dome. Unfortunately flavors are limited to variants. From the outside it really does look like a cake. The texture is cakey complete with frostings, the ice cream is actually located in the core of each cake (think Brazo de Merced except instead of egg yolk you have ice cream).
Each bite literally melts in your mouth (take that M&Ms!!). The sweetness is just right, something that you won’t expect from an ice cream cake. Definitely a must have for all those who wish to satisfy their craving sweet tooth. It is also great for parties this coming Christmas season as a whole cake will last up to three hours outside a freezer, however individual slices will melt within an hour or so. It is very affordable and is perfect for those quick fixes during merienda time. A roll slice will only set you for 30 pesos while a dome slice costs around 45. So if you’re looking for something sweet and new, then the ice cream cakes of Bake and Churn are a great way to satisfy your hunger as well as an excuse to catch up with some friends.

Yeah, Bake and Churn is amazing. Unfortunately, when we went there earlier, individual slices were not available – just whole cakes.
